Over the last few weeks we’ve been indulging in crates of clementines, and I mean literally crates. A very popular fruit over Christmas, why shouldn’t you keep enjoying them into the New Year? Just look at these clementines, don’t they look perfect?

In season between late November and early January, these delicious fruits are perfect for snacking on and an easy way to one of your 5 a day. 1 clementine = 1 of your 5 a day! They’re sweet, easy-to-peel and don’t have any seeds in them. And they give you upto half your RDA of Vitamin C. So, put that bag of crisps away and keep one of these with you at all times. The perfect snack to keep those hunger pangs at bay!


Have you heard of pigmented fruit?

We knew that fruit was good for us in terms of eating healthily. But, a recent study has given us a whole new reason to eat fruit! Researchers at the University of St Andrews have recently published a report showing that the ‘colour’ of your skin affects how healthy and attractive you look. Apparently ‘yellow-toned’ skin is considered healthier. Rather than endless tanning in the sun (we all know the dangers of that!), eating lots of fruit and veg nourishes your body with carotenoid pigments that mop up all the ‘body baddies’ and give your body that healthier hue. Try plums, nectarines and peaches…

What a good reason to reach for that fruit bowl today. Beauty and health. What more could a girl want?

Planning ahead

How many times have you come back home to a fridge full of ‘half’ ingredients? You have some ingredients, but they don’t all go together. Take yesterday. I had freshly made houmous, some mozzarella and some odd vegetables. For the life of me, I couldn’t think of a way of putting these ingredients together to make a weekend meal to be proud of.

This is where planning ahead is key. And here comes my geek within. Sitting down once a week and planning a menu for the week has become something of a ritual in our household. It doesn’t take long, maybe 5 minutes. I quickly scribble down the days of the week, and the meals I need to plan. Nothing fancy.

It makes me feel in control of the week’s food, and we can plan to eat things we want to. But, most importantly, it means I can plan my shopping list and buy what I need for each meal. That way, we eat fresh and healthy food all week without having to resort to cupboard standbys like pasta all the time. And, bonus – it means I don’t have to agonise over what to cook every single day!

Happy New Year to you all!

Not only is it a new year, but its also a new decade. So, what better time than now to start putting all those good resolutions to work.

We’ve been very busy at Red Apple HQ preparing for our launch. The company logo and branding are done. Bags are designed and ordered. And the website is coming up as we speak.

Exciting right?! Watch this space for updates as we finalise preparations over the next few weeks.
